Older workers would pay more due to unintended consequence of health care law Summary of AP Exclusive by Ricardo Alonso-Zaldivar on 6/30/11 An unforeseen problem has arisen out of the healthcare legislation.  Some older Americans could pay much more for private health insurance than those of the same age and income that have similar medical histories. Depending on income and Social Security status, Americans who are too young for Medicare but are drawing Social Security (i.e. 62+) could end up paying more for health insurance if they are working full time, rather than relying on a part time salary or Social Security alone. The definition of income used to create...

Remembering those who gave their lives for us

American Heroes II

I lost someone of immense value to me this year. My father-in-law died several months ago. He fought in WWII (Navy) and was one of five brothers who went off to war. Amazingly they all came back. What he left behind was what so many of us need—a sense of how blessed we are to live in a country that is based on being the land of the free and the home of the brave. He and many like him, including my father, knew it was their duty to go fight that war. They did it, came back and rarely talked about what they did while they were gone. What they did do to honor the memory of those they knew who fought and lived or died was to honor their country and its flag. Every 4th of J...

Cancer can be a costly illness. It affects your health, your emotions, your time, your relationships — and your wallet. Having health insurance does not guarantee that you will be protected from major, life-changing expenses if you have cancer. In fact, most bankruptcies that happen as a result of medical problems are filed by people who have health insurance. What makes this even scarier is that the current statistic in the U.S. is that men have a slightly less than 1 in 2 lifetime risk of developing cancer. For women, the risk is a little more than 1 in 3.* That is why it is important to protect yourself and your family from the financial drain a cancer diagnosis can...

Government Program Cuts Premiums Again

white house 2

Wouldn’t it be nice to be an insurance company who didn’t have to worry about profits when it comes to increasing enrollment! The federal government has decided that its competing guaranteed issue, cover all pre-existing conditions insurance policy isn’t cheap enough, so it has lowered the cost for a SECOND TIME this year. According to a WSJ article in the June 21 issue, the government originally estimated 350,000+ people would join the program in its first 6 months(7/1/10-12/31/10).  However, the results show that after one full year in existence only 22,000 people have signed up for the government program, even after it dropped the premiums in January. So it is cutting ...

Meet Beth Wilson. If you have visited the Columbia office, you have more than likely seen her at the front desk, and she is typically the cheerful voice on the phone when you call our main line. She works in the Administrative Services department as The Cason Group’s receptionist. A big part of Beth’s job is to help agents with their needs when they call. “Many people don’t realize how big The Cason Group is,” Beth says. “With a staff of more than 70 employees, we have several departments, and a lot of what I do is direct agents to the right department.” But Beth does a lot more than just answer the telephone. She juggles tasks all day, such as accepting and logging ca...
